I have been asked to be a mentor.

Published on June 28, 2017 | In Blog, Mentorship With Mary Alice - An Introduction | 0 Comment

At the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, in November 2015, a lovely young woman visited our Molly Brave booth in the Exhibition Hall. She was taken with our products and presentation, and though she works in child care education in Georgia, asked me if I would be her mentor; she told me she wants to write for children.  I said yes.

Time passed. I've built this blog on the Molly Brave website to include news, resources, recommended books, and information for parents and teachers. I spend part of each day reading articles and research in the field, and decided to include links to them in my blog as a kind of subject-specific library for myself and others with the same interests.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, but she or he must have a certain area of expertise.... The mentor may be referred to as a godfather/godmother.

I emailed the young lady yesterday. She replied, "Wow!!!! Your email is magic! Yes, I need your help."

So, my dear, let us begin here, on this blog. You say you have many questions. Let's begin with the first one. You ask me how to start. Go now to my blog subcategory page, How To Begin Writing For Children.  Because these numbered blog posts are organized by newest post first, you will find #1 on the last page.  Begin at the last post, which is #1, and read the posts backwards.

Before you go to post 1. For What Age Group Will You Write?,  please take 2 minutes and 13 seconds to watch this video, which clearly articulates the foundation upon which we build our work.  Click on the link above the photograph below to see this short, powerful and inspiring video.

The Power of Storytelling to Shape our Future

Right now humanity is playing out the narrative of the hero and destroyer, so we are constantly at war. This is how we can create a new narrative and build a better future for generations to come.
